Press Release: Washington DC's J&G Steakhouse Partners with Virginia's Award-Winning Catoctin Creek Distillery to Unveil Exclusive Handcrafted Custom Whiskey Blend '515'

One-of-a-Kind Whiskey Marries Award-winning Spirits – Mosby’s Spirit & Roundstone Rye – Available Exclusively at J&G Steakhouse

~~~
Washington DC (October 10, 2012) – Beginning in October, just in time for fall and winter whiskey lovers to enjoy, two of the most celebrated brands in the DC area – J&G Steakhouse at the W Washington DC and Catoctin Creek Distilling Company, Loudoun County’s first distillery since before prohibition – have announced the debut of ‘515’ – a custom handcrafted whiskey produced by Catoctin Creek and made exclusively for J&G Steakhouse. This is the first collaboration of this caliber for either notable brand.
Great minds think alike and that’s exactly how the story goes when it comes to J&G Steakhouse and Catoctin Creek’s recent collaboration to create the one-of-a-kind proprietary whiskey blend. Following an exclusive event hosted by J&G Steakhouse’s Sommelier Guy Golan and Catoctin Creek owner Scott Harris, Golan and Harris began to brainstorm and experiment with the possibility of crafting a private label whiskey. The name – 515 – represents J&G Steakhouse’s prominent and historic address – one of which places it within steps from one of the country’s most famous landmarks - the White House. Showcasing two of Catoctin Creek’s most popular and award-winning eco-ganic and kosher spirits – Mosby’s Spirit and Roundstone Rye – Harris and Guy decided to begin testing and tasting results by combining both of these products. Each bottle of ‘515’ is aged under two years in new oak barrels, and distilled and bottled by hand. Each bottle then comes numbered revealing glimpses of just how much time, care and energy went into crafting this rare product.
“The 515 blend was created to pay homage to the historic location of 515 15th Street NW, Washington DC”, says J&G Steakhouse Sommelier Guy Golan. “During a recent exclusive event we hosted at J&G Steakhouse with Catoctin Creek, we blended Mosby’s Spirit and Roundstone Rye to the approval of an intimate bar crowd, until we achieved the results we wanted; an exclusive whiskey showcasing the unique quality of Catoctin Creek’s eco-ganic spirits.” "This was an exciting and creative opportunity to look at our products in a whole new way", said Scott and Becky Harris, founders and master distillers at Catoctin Creek Distillery. “The tasting notes of this 100% rye blend reveals rich flavors of stone fruit, sugar cane, and leather. It is a truly lovely spirit!"
Catoctin Creek’s 515 custom blend is available only at J&G Steakhouse served in the picturesque main dining room, the cozy Wine Bar, on the patio – recently named as one of the Best Outdoor Dining venues by FoodandWine.com, and also in POV – the W Hotel’s sky-high lounge with beautiful bird’s eye views of the White House. Taking the intricate flavors of the custom blend to the next level, Belinda Chang, Beverage Director for Culinary Concepts Hospitality Group, will be creating and launching a series of handcrafted cocktails showcasing 515. Executive Chef Philippe Reininger is also looking forward to experimenting with 515 to further enhance his impressive line-up of sweet and savory fall dishes of which intertwine French and Asian flavors.
Press Release: Catoctin Creek to Expand Operations with Purchase of Historic Purcellville Property
Catoctin Creek Conceptual DrawingPurcellville, VA, September 3, 2012 – Catoctin Creek is in the final stages to purchase the historic Sam Case Building at 120 West Main Street in Purcellville, Virginia.  This building will allow the distillery to expand their operations with a new 300 gallon Kothe still, in addition to their existing 100 gallon Kothe still, providing a quadrupling of production capacity for the 3½ year old distillery.
"The Case Building was built in 1921 and first used as a Buick dealership," said Scott Harris, founder of Catoctin Creek.  "We initially looked at it and saw all this gorgeous unpainted brick, large windows and high ceilings and thought it would make a perfect distillery."  At 5,800 square feet, the building offers almost triple the floorspace of their existing facility on Richardson Lane.  Additionally, the distillery will be able to grow their retail and tourism operations with a much expanded retail store at the new facility.
"We are very excited to have Catoctin Creek Distillery on Main Street in Purcellville," said Mayor Bob Lazaro. "This will be a great attraction for our historic downtown.  Catoctin is a great local business, and will be a destination for years to come."
Financed through John Marshall Bank, the distillery plans to launch a nearly half-million dollar construction effort to renovate the building and create a modern distillery with a strong link to the past.  Enhancements planned include a new tasting room, public bathrooms, solar energy collectors, and dressing up the frontage on Main Street.
"John Marshall Bank is very pleased to have the opportunity to help fund the Case Building for Catoctin Creek Distillery," said James Bowman, Senior Vice President at the bank. "In a relatively short period of time, Scott and Becky have taken an idea and turned it into an exciting business. With this purchase, Catoctin Creek Distillery will be a destination location that will not only benefit Catoctin Creek, but the Town of Purcellville and the business community as a whole. We’re thrilled to be a part of it."
The purchase contract will close this month, with renovations beginning in early 2013.  The company is expected to complete their move from Richardson Lane to Main Street by summer of 2013.
Press Release: Virginia Craft Distilled Spirits Served at Governor’s Mansion
Richmond, VA, August 1, 2012 – A growing number of Virginia's agricultural products were highlighted this month at the Executive Mansion as distilled spirits products from two local craft distilleries, Catoctin Creek and Copper Fox, were poured at several Mansion receptions. Virginia gift sets including Catoctin Creek and Copper Fox distilled spirits products were also presented to honor distinguished Virginians.
"Virginia has a rich history of distilled spirits dating back to George Washington’s successful whiskey distillery at Mount Vernon, and with the emergence of craft distilling, the Commonwealth is once again taking its place as a top producer of premium spirits products," Governor McDonnell commented.
"We are very proud to have our products served at the Executive Mansion," said Scott Harris, founder of Catoctin Creek Distillery. "Virginia has been a rising star in the wine industry, and we aim to prove that the Commonwealth is also a top producer of whiskey, gin and brandy."
The pour list at the Executive Mansion included Catoctin Creek's Roundstone Rye, an aged rye whiskey; Mosby's Spirit, an un-aged spirit reminiscent of traditional Virginia whiskeys before Prohibition; and Watershed Gin, one of the only gins produced in the Commonwealth. Copper Fox Distillery’s gold medal award winning Wasmund’s Rye Whisky was also served, along with its single malt whisky.
"We are thankful for this opportunity to share our handcrafted products," said Rick Wasmund, owner and master distiller of Copper Fox Distillery "From the beginning, we have set out to make a whisky that is not only the best in Virginia but also among the best in the world. We are very proud to use all Virginia products in making our whisky including locally harvested grain, apple wood, cherry wood and oak."
In collaboration with Governor McDonnell’s "Choose the Commonwealth" initiative that he introduced during his inauguration in 2010, the Executive Mansion and First Lady continue to bring new Virginia products into the Mansion each week. The Executive Mansion is almost exclusively using Virginia products, including food and beverage daily. Sarah Scarbrough, Director of The Executive Mansion, thanked the Distilled Spirits Council for facilitating the donation of the craft distiller products.
"Gin is a product in a very competitive market," said founder and distiller Becky Harris. The New York International Spirits Competition is the first major international spirits competition to be judged solely by members of the trade who have purchasing power through their stores, bars, distribution networks and their resulting ability to make a direct impact on brand sales. Catoctin Creek Wins Green Innovation Award
Green Business Challenge 2011 - SilverPurcellville, VA, October 28, 2011 — Catoctin Creek Distilling Company has been named a Silver-level certified green business and awarded the Innovation Award in the 2011 Green Business Challenge.  The awards were received at the Green Gala, celebrated at the National Conference Center on Thursday evening.  Over 60 Loudoun county businesses participated in this year's challenge.
"We are thrilled by this," says Scott Harris, Vice President and General Manager at Catoctin Creek. "The Green Business Challenge affirms our commitment to sustainable practices, while producing the finest rye whisky, gin, and brandy in the area. Going green means we are simultaneously preserving our environment and saving big on energy and waste expenses."
As an example, Catoctin Creek Distilling Company recycles all by-products of their whisky production process. Waste alcohol is recycled into fuel-grade ethanol for blending into gasoline, and the spent rye mash is given away freely to local farms as a nutritious and eco-ganic-certified cattle feed. "This means that nothing in our production process ends up in landfill," says Harris. "We're really proud of that!"
The Green Business Challenge is a partnership between the Loudoun County Government and the Chamber of Commerce to encourage Loudoun businesses to adopt environmentally sound business practices. The Green Business Challenge has identified a number of actions businesses and organizations can take to become more energy efficient, implement more sustainable practices, and improve their bottom line. By making this commitment, businesses and organizations will help Loudoun County ensure a healthy and sustainable quality of life for all its citizens.
Catoctin Creek Gets a New Look
Purcellville, VA, October 24, 2011 — Catoctin Creek Distilling Company has updated their labels providing a fresh new look on the shelves.  Catoctin Creek's three signature products, Roundstone Rye, Mosby's Spirit, and Watershed Gin have each received revised labels.
"We felt that the new labels would help differentiate the products on the shelf, adding some new creative design elements, while staying true to the classic 'saloon' feel that we enjoyed on the first labels," said Scott Harris, Vice President and General Manager of the distillery. "Nothing has changed in the products; just the labels are new."
Apart from the decorative changes, each new label also highlights that the products are hand crafted and small batch, produced in the distillery's 100 gallon copper pot still.  Look for the new labels to begin appearing on bottles around the end of the year, as existing labels are depleted.
