Do you know where your whisky is made?
There is a lot of craft whisky in the market today, but much of it is made in a large factory in Indiana and sold a a premium as handmade. At Catoctin Creek, we didn't get into this business to bottle someone else's whiskey, but to make our own unique whisky from grain to bottle—right here in Purcellville, Virginia. And making whisky has been our passion since 2009. #truecraft
New Roundstone Rye Cask Proof Release!
Hickory-Finished Whisky now available!
As we leave spring and prepare for the hot summer days, we are excited to be a part of your summer get-togethers, parties, and evenings spent enjoying the beauty of the season with our new Roundstone Rye Cask Proof whisky! This special release is our best-selling Roundstone Rye finished in a hickory barrel from Falling Bark Farm in Berryville, Virginia, and is only available twice per year, so get your bottle while they’re still here!
Although the name hickory might sometimes lead people to expect a smoky flavor (as in barbecue sauce), this whisky is more on the tangy side than the smoky side. The influence of the hickory surprised us when we tasted and bottled this whisky. It is remarkably smooth, and a nice addition to your cask proof collection.

Catoctin Creek now on military bases!
As of Memorial Day weekend, our whisky, gin, and 1757 brandy will be sold in Army and Air Force Exchange Stores (AAFES) “Class Six” liquor stores in Ft. Belvoir, Virginia, and will expand to other AAFES’s throughout Virginia based on the success at Ft. Belvoir. Catoctin Creek will have a brand ambassador present at the fort, giving away complimentary tours and tastings to the service members.
As an army brat myself, I’m proud that Catoctin Creek is serving our men and women in the armed forces as they serve us. My first visit to a liquor store was with my dad in Germany, and is, in a way, where it all began for me as a distiller. This is an excellent opportunity for all of us to appreciate our friends and family in the military.

Cocktail of the Month – Strawberry Jive
DrinkTonight is an absolutely amazing Instagram account based in DC, and featuring fantastic cocktail recipes with various local spirits. They really enjoy our Watershed Gin, and have featured it four times int he recent past. I am grateful too that they have graciously allowed me to cross post their beautiful photos and cocktail recipes here for you so share. Find them on Instagram at www.instagram.com/drinktonight.
The "Strawberry Jive" is a combination of fruits and herbs that is refreshing, not too sweet, and alight enough for these really hot DC summer days. Strawberry and basil are a classic combo, too.
Handful of fresh basil
½ oz agave syrup
1 oz orange juice
Splash of lemon juice
1½ Watershed Gin
Muddle two strawberries, the handful of fresh basil and agave syrup in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Add the orange juice and lemon juice, along with the gin and a handful of ice. Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with sliced strawberries and basil.
