GWAR Returns for Ragnarök Review - Fred Minnick

The ghouls at GWAR are back, and this time, for Fred Minnick's review of THIS YEAR'S batch of Ragnarök Rye. There's lots of filthy talk about various things that only GWAR knows about, so we recommend starting the video at minute 10:00, where the real meat of the review begins.

Catoctin Creek Whiskies Reviewed - The Whiskey Wash

We received two stellar reviews from The Whiskey Wash this month. The team at WW sampled both the Roundstone Rye 80 Proof and the Roundstone Rye 92 Proof "Distiller's Edition." Highlights from the reviews:

Roundstone Rye 80 Proof - A highly complex rye whisky with a pleasant long finish. (4.5 / 5)

Roundstone Rye 92 Proof - This is a smoky, woody, and hearty rye overall, with a well-balanced and broad flavor profile offering lots of interesting character notes between the nose and palate. (4 / 5)

6 Cask Strength Whiskies - Whisky Advocate

Catoctin Creek Roundstone Rye Cask Strength Hickory Syrup Barrel Finish was recently included in the Whisky Advocate Summer Buying Guide, receiving 90 points! Ted Simmons provides the review:

The nose up front conveys a certain austerity, like dusty antique furniture, with notes of grape Kool-Aid, honey cake, and vanilla icing emerging over time. With water, Golden Grahams and citronella candles emerge. The palate is honeyed and hot, with honey-roasted peanuts overtop a chewy and viscous texture. The finish shows great length and viscosity; a lip-smacking finale. There’s a lot of wood and heat here, but a warming honeyed sweetness as well.

Catoctin Creek: Virginia's rye revivalists - Whisky Magazine

We were very fortunate to be featured in Whisky Magazine's latest issue, an in-depth piece on Catoctin Creek and our commitment to rye whisky by Susannah Skiver Barton. Susannah writes:

American whiskey culture had largely forgotten that rye, not bourbon, was the nation’s first native style. And Virginia, where the Harrises lived, had once been a thriving hotbed of rye distillers. “Rye was the stuff,” Harris says, noting that the grain was especially useful in colonial Virginia, where tobacco was grown as a cash crop.
