Hot Honey Rye™

The Original Hot Honey Rye!  Don't be fooled by imitations and products using cheap artificial flavorings!

Catoctin Creek Hot Honey Rye™ is a reprise of a very popular Barrel Select offering we did in 2022, and now we're introducing it as a permanent line extension. 

When you take our beautiful, potstilled 100% rye whisky, and you add three types of local Virginia honey (wildflower, clover, and buckwheat) and an infusion of chile peppers, you get something amazing.  Because we use real honey, the aroma and flavor of honey are dominant in this whisky, and the honey gives a very pleasant viscosity/mouth feel. 

Just as you're savoring the whisky, the peppers come in with a surprising and delightful bit of heat.  Smooth and sweet, with a ZING!  This is a fun one!

RECIPES

Aztec Manhattan

2 oz Hot Honey Rye
1 oz sweet vermouth
2-3 dashe of chocolate / mole bitters

Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice.  Stir and strain into a coupe.  Garnish with a good cherry.

Hot Honey Toddy

1 oz lemon juice (fresh!)
½ - 1 oz honey
1 - 2 oz hot boiling water
2 oz Hot Honey Rye

Combine first three ingredients in a coffee mug or teacup. Once well combined and honey is dissolved, add the Hot Honey Rye. Garnish with a dash of nutmeg.

Hot Honey Rush

2 oz Hot Honey Rye
1 oz lemon juice
½ oz orange juice
1 oz honey syrup (1:1 honey+water)

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a rocks glass with a big rock. Garnish with an orange peel.
